Lasting Love

I love to end my nights with class 95fm. (this is not an ad.)

You'll listen to real stories of people's love story,

The romantic ones are an inspiration that God's love is amazing.

The broken ones are an encouragement to seek his amazing love to repair it.

Yesterday, on my journey home, I listened to two inspiriting stories of how people deal with the love of their lives...

The first story goes all the way in England, about how a devoted man does simple gestures to speak of his love for his wife every single day...and they recently had their diamond wedding anniversary.

True Romance: Britian's real-life Romeo has put a rose by his wife's bedside every day for 60 years.

Every now and then devoted husbands make an extra special effort to bring a little romance to their marriages.

But wives across the country may well be pointing to Tom Shovelton today and telling their husbands they are siply not doing enough.

For Mr Shovelton, who is a sprightly 87, has put a fresh rose at his wife's bedside every single day of the 60 years they have been married.

For every morning he also kisses his 83-year-old wife Joan and every night he ensures she goes to sleep with another kiss.

These simple acts must secure the octogenarian the accolade of one of the most romantic husbands in the country.

The couple, from Pentre Halkyn in Flintshire, North Wales, were yesterday celebrating their diamond wedding annivesary.

Mrs Shovelton said: "I still get rose by my bedside every day and I always get a kiss in the morning and before I go to bed at night.
We have lived and worked together all our lives, so we know how important give and take is. We've had a happy 60 years together. I wouldn't have changed a thing."

It was a chance meeting on New Year's Eve of 1946, the year after the end of the Second World War, that led to the lasting union.

"When we first met, I was on leave from the Land Army, said Mrs Shovelton.

"Tom was a farmer in Lancashire. My sister was going with Tom's brother and we were introduced in a pub in Cheshire."

The couple courted for around 2 years before getting married in Marton cum Grafton near Ripon, in York.

They had share a love of horticulture and worked together as market garderners selling produce across the Manchester area.

Since they retired 22 years ago, they have continued to enjoy gardening together at their home.

Mr Shovelton does not think his loveing gesture of putting a fresh rose by his wife's bedside every day is remarkable.

He believes that if more couples make a selfless gesture to their spouse of loved one, there would be fewer broekn relationships.

"Everyone should do it," he said, "I love her to bits - I have done since the day we met."

The couple, who have children, Susan, Tony, Mark and twins Jayne and Paul, also have ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

They spent their anniversary celebrating with friends at the Autumn Club in Holywell before a family party at a hotel.

End

The second story, sets in our homeground, which involves a lady writing a letter in to tell her story.

They were collage friends (who are not close to each other) and lost contact until 4 years later, by chance they met again and this time sparks flew...

They knew they found a partner in each other and so, after courting for 6 months and they got married. (my note: A little fast i felt, but how they deal with the issues really is quite touching...)

Barely a few months into marriage, they soon got into a big arugement and they realised they were too fast into settling down and they did not understand each other too well...

But they love each other deeply to not hurt each other and finally they came to a conclusion...

"If things don't work out in a year, we have many other years ahead to work it out..."

My note: So true isnt it? Not all relationships and marriages and even family are smooth sailing, but once we decided on commiting to each other, the years ahead are for us to work it out... "Happiness is a journey, not a destination."

Live well people. Love well too.

I love celebrating birthdays for people.
But when it comes to my own in the past, I rather not have people fuss over me.
But along the journey, this year,
God brought together true friends and families to celebrate my fellowship with each and every single one of them.

It wasnt about the presents,
I got the greatest gift on earth for my birthday.
