CNY this year is the same as last year, same as the year before that and the year before that..
you get the drift.

Im just gald I hold peace.
or so I thought.
oh well.. at least not much family disputes this year.

Chu Xi dinner was at "Dua Ah Yi's" place at hougang.
What a feast she prepared man..
feels like chinese "Carnivore".
And the her 4 dogs are healthy and fine..
but blackie's kinda moody...
better not mess with him these days..

Chinese New Year just don't feel new anymore.
Ironically, each year seems to be indifferent.
Follow my parent's friends' place, sit there, watch tv and do nothing else..
eat a meal, and move on to another house, and the cycle repeats.
Most households should be about the same cycle.

Then you hear complaints.
That CNY is very tiring, very busy, waste of time, waste of $...etc.
Then people become Exhausted. Disappointed. and maybe Angry.

I dun know.
Pardon if some dun understand what Im saying,
but,
I suddenly thought about Martha's story in Luke's Chapter from the bible.

Martha was so anxious and troubled with the task, busy serving and laboring, that she forgot the very reason why she invited Jesus into her house- fellowship with her Savior.

But in the end, Martha served again, still busy, but this time, she's galdly doing what she's doing. Because she knows, she is serving her Saviour and that's all it matters.

Back to reality,
perhaps, we should also find a purpose.
CNY purpose is also to fellowship.
To catch up with family and friends.
Thats why we always do what we do.
Since centuries ago,
we are still celebrating CNY.
we are not celebrating the new year,
but relationships. =]

k k ..
if its too chim, ignore this post..
Im just saying my thoughts...

So,
why we spent time with love ones? with friends? with family.
til we're tired. til we're broke. til we're disappointed.

because they are the purpose.
the purpose of that relationship in the first place.

So dear friends,
for any celebrations,
we should all try and look at it at a very "humanly" point of view.
It just makes everything worthwhile at the end of the day.

So, ...
Valentine's is coming.
Not matter how times you've been through. how many chocolates/flowers you gave.
Still,
make an effort to celebrate this Valentine day with your partner.
And forget all ARGUMENTS and DISAPPOINTMENTS..
And celebrate it happily =D (Hint to a dear friend of 17 years..*Hor? Dou dou...*)

OH btw, HAPPY BIRTHDAY WENDY..AH CAI!!! s4 loves YOU wor~!

ok.. haha live well people.

Live Music

Im a huge fan of Jason Mraz. .
He's multi-talented, a great singer, composer and writer.
And plus, he's charismatic personality
plus good humored nature has earn him millions of other fans.
Not to mention, He's good looking. hee =]
but there is one other singer worthy of mentioning and her
voice just soothes the most troubled hearts.
they sang the most popular duet "Lucky", yup,
she's non other than Colbie Caillat.
I love her songs too. So im sharing some of
her live gigs here. =]
but first, I wanna share this video,
Where Jason Mraz sings "Lucky" by himself,
and imitates Colbie's voice for her part. haha.
Thats' why i said, He's funny. =]

My Daily Bread

Breakfast is essential.

It starts your day right and perks you up for the rest of the day.
And my essential list of breakfast must-haves, or shall I say my common breakfast set consist of;
- Milk (Im a loyal 'HL' fan, though most milks are fine with me too)
- Bread (Toast, peanut butter with jam, butter and kaya, egg mayo, ham..etc)
- And sometimes, cerals are great too.
- if there's no milk, Milo, Coffee or Tea satisfy me too..

So, its either American Breakfast style or Traditional Kaya toast for me. Works most of the time.

And nothing beats relaxing and slowly enjoying your breakfast over the morning news or the newspaper or 8 days.. ahhh..

but, unfortunately,
things aren't always so relaxing.
esp if you are in a hurry. Might just even skip breakfast.
Somemore now its the reccession period, no $ for American breakfast.

So.. recently,
the emergence of 'Economic Bee Hoon' stalls .. selling fast, often oily, salty, cheap ($1-$2) bee hoon are getting popular.

So much so that bread shops close down to open such Bee Hoon shops... Not that I have anything against Bee Hoon. Just not in the morning lei...Not all the time that is.
k k .. im drifting very far here.

Point is,
I honestly feel sad that bread shops around boon lay mrt are closed for such stalls..
No more aroma of baked bread.
No more aroma of coffee toast.

...
Plus, the calorie intake of one bee hoon is eqauls to about 2-3 traditional toast and kaya..
So essentially, you are having lunch for breakfast.
But yes, I do understand everyone has their own preference.

Thats why,
let me just rant on my blog about my lost of my 'Daily Bread" at boon lay ...

Food Poisoning

Arghhh....

For the past week,
or rather, weekend,
I felt totally drained.

Drained off energy.
I suffered food poisoning, tiredness and feverish symptoms.
I was grouchy.. gloomy..

Tell mi.. how to smile?

Eventually, I did.
From God, From Friends, From family.

Through His words, I strengthen and found faith.

through His people, I found love, that keeps me going.
Friends were very concern. *Xie Xie =]
Keeping me company despite my moodiness, and sickness,
They cheered me up, treated me like a ill child who needs to get back to active mode again.
They became my dietician and gave 'strict' instructions on the food I could eat..
Some blessings may be little, but meant so much to me =]

through my mom, well..she almost gave me a SHOCK (new PUNKY hair colour, and nails..)but she bought light meals for me hee gd enough to make me smile again =]

well...
wat can i say..
like I always say...
"Spread the love people"
Thanks for giving me yours my friends =]

Tully's Coffee

I chanced upon this cafe one night with Jaslin at West Coast Plaza.
Thanks to Gerard for driving us there =]
And thanks to the Manager of the cafe, Richard,
A very nice guy who gave us vouchers (buy 1 get 1 free)
and was serving us well. =]
For this cafe,
Coffee wise, its not too strong, but still as quite gd aroma.
Price wise, reasonable, cheaper than starbucks (a little over rated for drinks...)

But you gotta try their chocolate drinks,
they uses "Ghirardelli" chocolate,
think of it as the 'LV' or 'Gucci' of chocolate ba.
So their chocolate drink is very smooth...yet, rich.
whooo..
They dun have much food range though,
But if anyone is there,
go try their drinks =]

-Spread the Love people- *winks winks*
Tully's Coffee at the all new ex-Ginza, West Coast Plaza.
Tully's Mascot is a Tiger!

Branded chocolate wor~! its pronounced as "Gear-Ar-Delly"
Layout of the cafe is quite cosy, and simple.
Caramel Marchiato
Kong! *can see how much the chocolate drink has caused that smile on her.. haha

Once Upon a Sunday Evening,
Little SteelSpoonAndGrass went for a walk at the Marina Barrage...

Now there were many families and couples sitting, playing and laughing at the green pasture,
And little steelspoonandgrass was sitting at a far end corner,
Simply watching them, enjoying the breeze, and absorbing the relaxing atmosphere.

While reading,
The evening sun glows an amber red, telling everyone of its graceful retreat,
While the sky slowly turns dark.

And then little steelspoonandgrass saw something amazing,
The city in front of the barrage lit up,
And all was beautiful.
And she was simply awed by the night scene.

As she left,
She thank Him, for painting a beautiful picture,
To cheer her up.

--THE END--

A very cosy image of a family of three flying kite together...
Kites somehow represent a sense of freedom...

Girl Genius

Small Girl, BIG voice.

One word: Amazing. =]

Waraku

My sis has been a big fan of Japanese Cuisine,
So while meeting her for dinner recently,
There's no guessing what we are having.

Waraku has been around for some time.
It used to be serving very traditional, small portions of mouth watering Japanese food.
But since it has manifested into "Waraku de pasta", "Waraku Cafe" and most recently, "Mr Curry",
some how..the standard level drop.
One thing remain the same though. (The Small Portion)

Right, this place we visited is the new Dining at Heeren Level 5.
Whole new eatery level at The Heeren Shops.

Here my overall crictic:
- Ambience: Casual dining place, modern simple interior.
- Service: Honestly, the people there make some effort to greet "Irrasshaimase" *welcome in Jap.* but in a super loud & stern tone that you might think you owe them money. Plus, they are not the smily type, so don't expect much la. So, average standards for service.
- Food: Super big bowls, regular size portions, very average taste. In other words, to me, its like any other regular food court Jap food, but high restaurant prices. But I shall be fair, Waraku do provide a good variety of food like noodles, curry, hot pot, udon, bento. And they do have some good stuff like their udons and their pentai! or izzit mentai?! ... oh wells..
- Price: Price around $15+ per main course.
- Place: Simple meal with friends, not so suitable for special occasions.
- Ratings: hmmm I give it a 2.5 star over 5.

Let the pictures do the talking bah...

My sis ordered this : Some combo thingy that has chicken don, soba and udon. Nice~!
This is the pentai! or mentai! hee cant remb. just know that the salmon with potato covered by cheese on hotplate is a superb combo!

my beef curry noodles. see? bowl super gigantic, but look at my noodles, like less than 1/4 of the bowl's size lo...

My bowl and my sis, regular bowl...*very Kua Zhang rite...*

huge enough to even put my face in!...

A Wedding Role.

If there is any occasion that is most special and meaningful to most girls,

that gets them most excited and happy,
Yes, Awwww... Weddings.

Once in a Lifetime,
When true love is celebrated,
Where happiness is found.

And not to mention all weddings are beautiful no?
No matter how big or small, glamourous or simple,
its beautiful.
There's lightings (haha i know i know..) there's flowers, there's the love songs lingering in the atmosphere, and the beautiful people.
That's why I love the idea of weddings.
Not that I'm dying to get married, but I love to attend one if there is a chance.
But having being 21+ this year, I honestly haven been to one yet.

haha all those i mentioned earlier were mostly from movies. =p

So I felt this year, if there is a chance to attend one, I would be delighted.
Because to be able to witness genuine happiness,
makes one happy too =] .

and just today..
I receive an email.
A wedding invitation!

From a good friend of mine, we were from the same strong-bonded basketball team.

I was soo excited! (even though its not mine)
finally!
......
And just as I was about to send my congrats,
This gd friend of mine, MSN-ed me.
......
"Do you wanna be my bridesmaid?"
Me: *Stunned* "huh? you should let the 'Zhang Bei' take the place bah.."
"I want you to do it."
Me: *Double stunned* ........
"You go find clothes k? HOT PINK
Me: "huh wait.. pink? me?"
"Ok settle den..............."
(So it seemed not a question anymore, but an order.)

Nooooooo
wait, I love to attend one,
but as a bridesmaid?
what do they do in their flowery dresses?
Their elegant mannerism....
And she want us to wear wat? HOT PINK? *faints*

Everything just seems sooo impossible in me lo.

*Blanks blanks*

I even wiki-ed Bridesmaid and got this:
"The bridesmaids are members of the bride's wedding party in a wedding. A bridesmaid is typically a young woman, and often a close friend or sister. She attends to the bride on the day of a wedding or marriage ceremony. Traditionally, bridesmaids were chosen from unwed young women of marriageable age."

Let's do a checklist under this definition:
- Young women *Checked*
- Close friend *Checked*
- Attends to bride *Half Checked* (I don't even put makeup on myself, let alone doll the bride up, but other logistics stuff, arranging flowers and all, asking big Ang Baos from the groom, Im still ok.. haha)
- Unwed *Checked!* (I somehow got this feeling that if I remain 'unwed', I might just be on my way to be a bridesmaid for all my friends' weddings! now is that gd or is that bad? hmmm...)
- Hot Pink Dress *NOT Checked* *NOT willing*

Oh my goodness,
My first wedding, er no, My first invite to a wedding, and its as a bridemaid....
perhaps, its time to go for 'Yi Tai Ban" *Etiquette Class*
...

Handy Man, Pretty Woman

There is no definite answers to Men Versus Women issues.
And perhaps this has got to be the longest, most talked-about, gossip topic since centuries ago.

Me, being curious and interested in all things human (*not in a dirty sense, pls),
especially in the matters of human affection.
The matters of the heart.

So one day, in the bus, I was pondering over things I have came across and realized that Men and Women are just different.
There is no way we are same.
There is only one way to do--
Embrace our differences.
haha, before I continue, let just say, I might get a little bit bias towards ladies (obviously).

Men, are Handy. Women, are Pretty. enuff said.

Let me lay out my own set of theories which came over me in the bus.

Men...are Handy because...
- They fix things.  They can fix household appliances, cars, machines, water plumbs etc... but they cant really fix their relationships well. (Thats why they fix THINGS.)

-They are interested in all things (Cameras, Toys, Cars, Golf, Soccer, 4D,Comics,Anime, Computers..etc) except (or rarely) matters of their hearts.

- They are rational and directive. Straight to the point.

- Lastly, lets face it, Men, are more practical. They DO things the LOGICAL way.

Women...are Pretty because...
- They fix lives. They fix their life (their face, body shape, makeup, health, work)

- And they are interested in other people's lives too (kids, family, friend's kids, friend's family, neighbour's family, neighbour's dog, even Obama's life.. you get the drift...)
-They are irrational and subjective. Wishy Washy, considering EVERYthing under the sun, Even if its not their concern.

-Lastly, lets face it too, Women, are more sensitive. They FEEL things the RIGHT way. (now the "right"  way is not necessarily  the logical way. Its just their way.)

If you thought this post is sarcastic,
sometimes, sarcasm  brings out reality better.

What Women cant do, Men does it perfectly. What Men cant give, Women provides lovingly.
So I would say Men and Women complement each other.
Beautifully.  (Ironic i know, since there are ugly differences among us)
If we can embrace our differences, we can embrace a loving relationship.

Now this is is not a BGR lesson.
Its human relationship lesson for me.
You can apply this module to Family, Friends, Girlfriends, Boyfriends, Classmates, Mentors.. everyone.
There is no exam. And I thank you for the 'lesson'.

I leave this post, with this dance-music video, from "So you think you can dance". I personally feel that the dance tells perfectly of the lyrics to the song. "Bleeding Love", Im sure you guys are not unfamiliar with, its one of my favorite song because it sings of faithful love.

Lost and Found.

I lost wallets before.

I lost friendships before.
I lost kinship before.
I lost love before.
I lost competition before.
I lost pride before.
I lost myself before...

I can lose all things, but still be happy that God is still with me, because He provides more than what I lost.

Yes yes..
As some of you might have guessed...
I 'lost' my wallet last night.
AGAIN.
Same story, Rushing for time, fell off somewhere, somehow and tada~~ GONE. enuff said.

But this time, the blessings and support I received is far more than the worth of my wallet.
Firstly, Mr Giraffe was there, searching for the 'lost' pink wallet... losing his last train ride home.
Then, just as I thought I would never get back my wallet,
A cleaner appeared, and asked : "Did you lose something?"
"Yes....my wallet.."
"Is it this?"

I did 'lost' my wallet, but the cleaner gave me something more than my wallet--His blessed honesty and kindness.
Of cause, Mr Giraffe got his role too. *claps claps* gonna give him credit....
seriously,
Thank you. =]

Little Home Food

Little Home Food is about home made food.
Eaten by...Me.
Enjoyed by...Me.

Anyways, being a No. 1 Chocolate Lover, it does not excite me more than making chocolates myself. So after being taught by some 'herbivore', who got the 'secret recipe' from his mom, I am now a 'chocolate chef' ! *sort of*

This is my result...

I know .. I know.. looks like some Milo/Nutella lookish pudding now. But its really chocolate wor.  And I had fun making them... chopping... mixing...stirring... next time (long time), who knows it might replace Ferraro Roche le..
It's not all smooth sailing thou... I failed on some occasions and tada~! Chocolate Pudding. (its yummy though.. lol)
oh oh.. this is the preserved lemons my mom asked a friend to buy from Hong Kong. Home-made by this Old Grandpa since many many years back. Think his picture is somewhere on the top right corner of the label. And Im telling you guys, its GOOooooD.
Im not a fan of preserved stuff. But honestly, this lumpy, ugly looking thing is addictive (not to mention healthy). So if you happen to be in Hong Kong.. pls buy "LEMON KING" from HK. *Cheesy name I know*
This, is not food. But my home's latest furniture addition. A Rocking Chair! (According to the owner, *my mom*, its exclusively for her Watch Drama Time chair...wha.. the extent my mom do to invest in her drama time...did i mention "Wu Zhun" is her idol? )

Food Tours

Food Tour

Sounds very touristy and boring right?

But to me, I have always loved Food Tours/Explorations.
To me its a mix of many good combination of Delicious Food, Exploring new places and Building Friendship.

I've embarked on a few food tours recently and the critical factor lies with the right people, the right food at the right place;
Right people? Yups, I have many foodie friends as well- s4 la, Kong mama la, buddy Eric, and most recently 'Mr Giraffe'.

Right food? that is subjective. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes the price just don't justify the food. But going 'freestyle' means you have to accept the good, and the bad.

Right place? I find myself strangely attracted to 'ulu' places. undiscovered streets and food places that makes the whole 'exploring thing' exciting. haha. And my most recent findings has to be Rochester Park (Finally) and Duxton Hill.
The ambience of the place matters too. Candles, Good service and Smooth acoustic/jazz music never goes wrong! haha k la, im bias, my fetish for lightings gives candles a plus point. However, pls don't get me wrong, I am a heartlander too. So hawker food has its own unique attraction.

So having said that, I will definitely share all the good stuff here, because like my mom always say "Good things are meant to be shared."
Therefore....Any good places to recommend anyone? feel free to tag.
I will put up some pictures soon, taken by a certain vegetable animal who takes some 'magazine quality' photos.
Meanwhile...
Live well people. =]

About SteelSpoonAndGrass...

This name was choosen because:
Steel is less glamourous than Gold or Silver, but yet, strong, and useful for making many humble tools that help build great things.

Grass is less pretty than flowers and trees, but yet, strengthens the soil ground with its roots, feeds the animals, supporting the growth of many other living things.

"Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be." Jobs 8:7

 SteelSpoonAndGrass's Introduction

But pls don't feel uncomfortable with those, I will still include crazy stuff to write if I encounter one (which happens most of the time..), but nothing is wiser than words from the bible.  I want to give thanks to all whom I've crossed paths with, and many who walked with me even in difficult paths.
Xie Xie Ni Men. =] Happy New Year hunks and babes!
