I caught the movie "Marley and Me" recently with my dear pal Jaslin.
I would say its the best story written for a movie I've seen so far this year.
Well, why shouldn't it? It is after all adapted from a real life story by John Grogan.
For those who have not yet seen the movie,
Marley and Me is about how this young newly wed couple bought a golden retriever puppy so as to learn how to start a family.
You see, the couple are both working in the media sector (reporter and journalist/columnist),
so they reckon, in order for the wife (played by Jennifer Aniston) and husband (Owen Wilson) to learn how to manage both work and family, they should get a puppy and learn to take care of what they named as "Marley".
Marley, unlike other dogs, is HYPEP-active. Ultimate activity going on in his cells man. He eats ALL the time, runs around EVERYwhere, Poops ALL over the place and chews ANYthing (including a radio player).
So of cause, the couple had a difficult time taking care of Marley. Very difficult time.
But, even though, neighbours, friends, and even the police threaten to get rid of Marley,
the couple insisted on keeping him by their side.
A few years later, the couple knew they were ready for a baby.
And tada~! Baby came into the picture and the foursome struggled even more as the wife was pregnant again, so baby no. 2 comes in, wife quit her job to take care of the family full time, and Owen Wilson, having to bear the responsibility of supporting his family of 5, found himself having to sacrifice personal dream to become a New York Times reporter.
Then there were family disputes and pressures and even though John and his wife were tired, angry and upset with many things, they kept one thing constant, their love and care for each other. And Marley. John and Jenny loved Marley, and their children grew up to love the dog too. They managed to overcome the odds and shifted to the outskirts of Pennsylvania, in a nice cottage house with their family. This time, it showed more of how Marley grew increasingly closer with the family and of cause, he grew older too. Until eventually, Marley passed away...
I love 2 scenes especially. One is when John and Jenny was strolling at the beach with Marley and they asked each other about "extending" the family... (Few thoughts came to my mind; One, Communication. Not just talking, but committing to one another. Two, Respect. A marriage or family is not a one way thing. Loving meant respecting in all that involves your loved ones. In time, in values and in physical. John actually asked Jenny first about the next step to their marriage. He knows its a great commitment, and wants to know what his wife thinks. A simple gesture, yet special meaning.)
The other, is when John takes Marley for walks at the beach, at the parks and at the green pasture. Marley was a friend, a family. Not a pet. Again, so simple, yet so special.
When Marley was dying, John never left by his side. (of cause, expect much buckets of tears at this part...)
A simple movie, yet special meaning...
What i felt about the movie?
- Couples and families should watch it. People with dysfunctional relationships as well. See how real love exist and, it's as simple as that.
- I kinda thought "Blackie seems to be getting older......" This house doggy of mine, has bought joy, laughter, sadness and anger. But he never left us too...
-"Marley and Me" is worth 4/5 popcorns.
Catch it people.
